What Amex reviews
Amex looks at your credit profile, reported income, existing obligations, and internal history with Amex (if any).
Exact approval criteria are not public. Check your credit reports for accuracy before you apply. Make sure your income figure is complete and truthful.
After approval: first setup steps
Activate the card and set autopay. Enroll in the Dining, Resy, and Dunkin’ credits. Add the card to the Uber app for monthly Uber Cash.
Turn on account alerts. If you travel, add the card to your mobile wallet and confirm international use. Use 4X categories first.
Book flights direct or via AmexTravel.com for 3X. Track monthly credits so you do not leave value unused.

How Pay Over Time Works (simple overview)
If Pay Over Time is active, eligible new charges automatically move into your Pay Over Time balance, up to your Pay Over Time limit.
You can instead pay your Total New Balance in full, pay the Minimum Payment Due, or any amount between. Interest applies to Pay Over Time balances.
Cash advances accrue interest from the transaction date. Plan It® lets you split qualifying purchases into monthly payments with a fixed fee.
Certain charges never qualify (for example, cash equivalents). Your Pay Over Time limit is not a spending limit.

Is The American Express® Gold Card a Fit For You?
Choose this card if you often spend at restaurants and U.S. supermarkets. You should plan to enroll and actually use the monthly credits.
Run the math: if you capture most of the $120 Dining, $120 Uber Cash, $100 Resy, and $84 Dunkin’ each year, you can offset the $325 fee.
If you seldom dine out, buy limited groceries, or will not track monthly credits, the value drops.
Avoid carrying a balance if you can; the APRs are high compared with typical personal loans.
